So I am in a very rare situation it seems based on what I have read on the internet and other forums.
Back in 2014 a case started against me from a creditor and resulted in a default judgement being granted beginning of 2015.
The amount is for $3500. Shortly after that judgement was granted. I called the collections company and threw myself into a payment plan to prevent a garnishment. I made one payment of $100 (Even though they asked for $500 a month which is evil) and I fell back into not being able to afford paying them.
More than a year has gone by since I made that payment of $100. I have not got a single phone call from them, letter, nothing. I have heard of no attempt to garnish my wages nor freeze my bank account. Its as if it never happened and I have been living my life normally. Of course though, I have intentions to pay them back as I have landed a better job.
My question is though. Based on the stories and facts I read online. How have they not tried anything yet? From what it sounds like I should have been garnished within months of that judgment being filed at the most! What is going on? Its relieving that I have come this far yet scary as it seems like they can come out of any corner at any moment. I have found no forum post or facts to relate too. It seems like I am the only one who has not only avoided being garnished for so long, but seen no motivation by the judgment creditor to do so!
At first I thought it was because I have switched between 3 bank accounts since then and I have gone through 3 job changes. I get a mixed message when it comes to how they can find you. Some people say judgement collectors can find you fairly easily. Others say that it takes a long time.
I just want to see if someone has an explanation for me as to why it has been over a year since anything has happened? I do not want to settle with the thought that I just have a lazy judgement collector after me.
