A long time ago, I went to Mexico with my cell phone. The phone was cloned and it showed me making calls within minutes of each other from Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City - I wish I could travel between these cities within 10 minutes! When my bill came in from Verizon, I refused to pay the bill and told them there was fraudulent activity on my account and I wouldn't pay until it was fixed. They told me that I needed to pay the amount owed and any credit I receive would be applied to future bills. No way am I going to pay $6k out of my pocket and then wait to get credited on my account once the investigation was concluded.
This happened in 2015. Surprisingly, when I woke up this morning, I had a notification stating my credit score went down. There was a new collection account - for Verizon. The company that is trying to collect has shown the account went into collection this month. Can they re-age an account like this? What can I do to get this fixed?
