I have used the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act under Unfair Practices and have been successful in negotiating with companies regarding unfair practices using the FDCPA. They cannot charge interest on debt (other than the principal amount), cannot call at certain times, and must have debt collector's license and bond to practice debt collection procedures in your state. Additional violations are listed under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act as well. These laws fall under the U. S. C. to all include state laws. One has to check the statute of limitations in their state where they reside before applying the FDCPA accordingly.
